The Shop@CIL – Assistive Technology Reuse Center

The Shop@CIL," also known as “The Shop”, is CIL's Wheelchair Repair and AT reuse center. The Shop is housed at CIL’s historic former headquarters on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley.

The Shop accepts large and small, high-tech and low-tech, mobility-related and non mobility-related AT donations.  We then we clean, repair, and refurbish  as necessary before distributing it for reuse.

Items available for reuse can be found on the AT Network’s AT Exchange site https://exchange.atnet.org/.

The Shop currently has the following service:

  • The Shop repairs wheelchairs on sliding scale basis.
  • The Shop provides consumers with AT to keep.
  • Distribute certain items temporarily as “loaners.”
  • Features a state-of-the-art HUBSCRUB machine with which to sanitize durable medical equipment, and at least once per month The Shop offers sanitization services to community members free of charge.
  • The Shop offers most of its AT items free or reduced charge.
