A Blog Is Born!

Yomi Wrong, Executive DirectorOwing to my former career as a newspaper reporter, I’ve basically adopted the mantra “I shall meet no deadline before its time”, which is the reason this blog was so long in the making.

I admit, since I decided to blog for CIL (some three months ago) I’ve wandered aimlessly in search of a host, fretted about topics, fussed over my words. I grew to appreciate all those nagging news editors who forced me to think fast and write fast and move on to the next story.
Finally, a friend who was sick of my hand-wringing said “Just do it!”, and so I have.
Welcome to my first post!

I should tell you why I was inspired to do this in the first place.
  • I miss writing. More than that, I miss telling stories that help inform and shape communities.
  • My experiences at CIL provide endless fodder for narrative reflection and analysis.
    •
  • I’d like to share the highs and lows of working in the Independent Living Movement, the people I encounter who have an impact on my thinking, and my dreams for CIL’s future.
  • I want to build solidarity with other Disability leaders and advocates. I also want to connect those unfamiliar with the Movement to our issues and bring them along as allies.
I hope that blogging will allow me to engage in a more thoughtful way than either Facebook or Twitter allow. So thanks to those of you who followed me over from the social networks. I promise to give you substantially more than a tweet, but with much less frequency than status updates.

Whenever you pop in, I’ll try to make our time here interesting.

Thanks for reading,

Yomi
