Deaf Services
CIL provides individualized peer counseling services for Deaf consumers. Our Deaf services counselor acts in a lead role to assess needs and develop a plan specific to the goals of the individual. Direct services from the counselor include everything from assistive devices training (e.g., Sorenson phone system), to internally collaborative travel trainings (public ways and public transit), employment and benefits counseling, housing needs, specialized assistive technologies and other independent living skills available through CIL specialized staff resources at our Berkeley headquarters. Where appropriate, CIL collaborates with outside agencies to provide links to medical and psychiatric care, social work, on-going education and other needs as assessed and described in the goal setting during the creation of an independent Living Plan.
